Geology is the study of the the rocks and minerals that make up the surface of the
Earth and the other solid bodies in the solar system (such as the Moon)
which until recently were confined to the realms of Astronomy.
Some rocks (such as granite) were formed by volcanic processes which help
to shape the land masses that are studied by Physical Geography.
Other rocks (such as limestone) contain fossils that tell use about ancient Biology.
Many mineral resources are important for Industry while others,
such as crude oil, provide raw materials for Chemistry on a large scale. | |
